You are a seer.  The god Odin is your latest customer.

Based on the choices you make about the events of his life, you will decide the way the world ends.

Can you avoid Ragnarok?

Does Odin deserve to?

A game by Declan Taggart (@DCTaggart), made with Inky.

Approximate time per playthrough: 10 minutes

Content warning for descriptions of violence, misogyny, death, abduction, sexual coercion.

Based on a genuine Old Norse poem called Vǫluspá, this interactive fiction recreates the mythology of the Vikings for a modern audience.

This game originated as a diary project for Unwinnable.com, a videogames and culture magazine that I wish I was as cool as. Go read and support them. They deserve your money.

The diary starts here: http://tiny.cc/IF_diary1

For a (free but very old) translation of the original poem, go here: https://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/poe/poe03.htm

Thanks to lots of people for their help in playing and talking me through the making of this, but especially consummate development professionals Irene García Losquiño, Victoria Koivisto-Kokko, Kristian Koivisto-Kokko and Megan Condis.

'Choose your own end to the viking world' was produced while I was receiving funding from the Irish Research Council for the related research project 'Rethinking old gods' (GOIPD/2017/1171), so cheers to them as well.
